Dr. G Predicts Western Winners in NBA

By Nick Grudin

Sports Associate

The NBA in 1999 will be dominated by a cast of powerhouse west-coast squads. The top four teams are all from the Western Conference; the Portland Trailblazers, the San Antonio Spurs, the Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers will all have to vie for one spot in the NBA Finals, and one of them will take home the trophy. The Western Conference playoffs will be the climax of the season.

The top teams in the west will not have an easy road ahead, however. Not only will they have to play each other, they will have to deal with a formidable collection of up and coming young teams. The Phoenix Suns, the Sacramento Kings, the Seattle Supersonics and the Minnesota Timberwolves are all teams that have the potential to win big games. [con't]

King Sinks Boxing

Immediately I leaped upon the beggar. With a blow of my fist I closed one of his eyes, which in an instant grew as big as a ball. I broke one of my finger nails breaking two of his teeth... I seized him by the collar with one hand, and with the other I took him by the throat and began pounding his head against the wall... Then, having by a vigorous kick in the back, strong enough to break his shoulder blades, felled the sexagenarian, I picked up a large branch that happened to be lying on the ground and beat him with the obstinate energy of a cook tenderizing a beefsteak.- Charles Baudelaire, Beat The Poor, from Paris Spleen. Sagehens Suffer First Round Tourney Elimination

By Derek Walters

The Pomona-Pitzer men’s water polo team (13-13 overall, 4-5 SCIAC) went into last weekend’s SCIAC post-season tournament hoping to redeem what they felt was a sub-par year. Their first game, against La Verne University, looked as though it would be a good springboard into the latter rounds of the tournament.

Looks can be deceiving.

"We will never speak of that game again," said Dustin Baker ’01, echoing the comments of every Sagehen. [con't]
