Study Abroad Rejections Reversed

The Study Abroad Committee (SAC) made an unprecedented move this Wednesday when it decided to reconsider previously denied applicants to the spring session of the study abroad program. The study abroad selection process has come under fire following the release two weeks ago of the spring study abroad list, which many junior applicants who were denied admission felt was unfair. CMC Coronates President Gann

Pamela Brooks Gann was inaugurated last Saturday at Bridges Auditorium in one of a series of events that marked her entrance as Claremont McKenna’s fourth president. Gann, CMC’s first female president, became president on July 1, 1999, after an eleven-month search to replace Jack Stark, CMC’s president for 19 years. [con't]


Linguistics Department Centralized at Pomona

Since 1974 professors from several disciplines at Pomona and Pitzer have been teaching and granting majors in linguistics through an intercollegiate program. However, this year Pomona created an independent department dedicated solely to the study of linguistics.

The department, though currently lacking facilities, will be staffed and operated by three Pomona professors from separate disciplines. They are Professor of German and Russian Karen Kossuth, Professor of French Rene Coppieters, and Professor of Philosophy Jay Atlas. [con't]


Questions Raised Over Business Recruiting

The sight of students in business suits is becoming increasingly common as many seniors hustle to and from interviews with some of the nation’s top firms in business, finance, consulting, banking, retail, and other fields. This process of on-campus recruiting, in which companies come to one of the five campuses, give a presentation, and interview college students, is facilitated and organized by the Career Development Office of Pomona College and similar offices of other Claremont Colleges. Security Briefs

Wednesday, October 20, 11:53 am. Claremont Police informed Campus Safety about graffiti on Sumner House reading, "A badge is not a license to kill." Campus Safety referred CPD to maintenance. [con't]


Senate Briefs

Sports Commissioner Dan Silberstein ’00 opened the floor to revisions of the senate election code. Silberstein read through contested portions of the code. Senators discussed several proposals and voted to reword section IV-a in order to clarify guidelines on campaigning and campaign materials on election day. After extended discussion the topic was adjourned until the next meeting. [con't]

The Campus Center’s new Sagehen Cafe was open for business Wednesday night,opening to a large crowd. Seeking to further improve the Center, the ASPC will host an open forum on Monday the 1st at 4:15;President Stanley will attend.
