No Justice Served For Landrum

The Irvin Landrum case took another muddled turn last Monday with the release of the District Attorney’s findings on the shooting. The results of the D.A.’s inquiry could only soothe the most easily placated of observers with its half-baked rehashing of the incident. By doing no further research into the events surrounding the night of January 11, 1999, the D.A. showed its contempt for every person who really cares. We want to see justice served, but that will have to wait for the federal investigation later this year. [con't]


Congregating at the SCC: Are We Acting Against Our Better Judgment?

The Smith Campus Center is now officially a Hangout.

With the re-opening of the Coop Fountain in its new location, and the grand opening of the Sagehen Café, students are beginning to adapt to their new habitat. While the luscious plethora of resources (Pop Tarts, rave-inspired T shirts and Pomona license plate holders) provided by the Coop Store brought students to visit the center, it did not have the power alone to retain its restless students, even on a Sunday afternoon. Smith Center Committee Is A Farce

The idea that a committee of students is going to have any effect on improving the Smith Campus Center is ludicrous. There is absolutely no need for a committee in this scenario. We attend a school of 1400 students. "Direct democracy" can work here. If the administration truly wanted a picture of what needs to be improved about the Smith Campus Center, they would sit in the dining halls and ask students or pass out surveys. [con't]
