Four New Cases of Salmonella DiagnosedBy Krista Seymour News Associate Since last weeks report of twelve cases of salmonella, four new infections have been confirmed, three of which occurred after the closing of Frary Dining Hall, the believed locus of the bacterium. Amber Croyle 00 was diagnosed with salmonella Tuesday: "I was sick starting last Thursday and yesterday Baxter confirmed that I had salmonella," said Croyle. Croyle claims to never have eaten at Frary or off-campus. Croyle believes her infection was contracted from Frank Dining Hall. [con't]
Professors Receive Wig Awardby Nora Lawrence Managing Editor The annual Wig Distinguished Professorship Awards, awarded mainly on the basis of student votes, were bestowed at the end of spring upon five faculty members: Martha Andresen (English), Eleanor Brown (Economics), Paul Hurley (Philosophy), John Seery (Politics), and Shahriar Shahriari (Math). It is the most prestigious award which Pomona College confers on faculty members and consists of a $5000 stipend. [con't]
ASPC Senate Election Results Under Debateby Matthew Preusch News Editor ASPC elections held this past week resulted in few conclusions and renewed uncertainties about the election process. Out of the six races for positions available in the student senate, only two have produced a clear winner at this time. Three others are conducting run-offs, and a fourth, the race for North Campus Representative, has been delayed by violations of the election code. The races awaiting run-offs are for Freshman Representative, Sophomore Representative, and South Campus Representative. [con't]
Mudd-Blaisdell to be Renovatedby Will Weinstein News Associate It may only be a matter of months before Mudd-Blaisdell gets a makeover. As early as December, when students leave for the winter holiday, construction crews could start on the first phase of the $5.5 million renovation project designed to give the dormitory a complete renovation. The renovation project will likely include improvements to both the exterior and interior of Mudd-Blaisdell. "Our goal is to give [Mudd-Blaisdell] a complete renovation, both aesthetically and physically, because it is the dorm with the greatest need for improvement at this point," Dean of Campus Life Matt Taylor said. 5-College Senate Seeking Purpose in Inaugural Yearby Matthew Preusch News Editor The Senate of the Claremont Colleges (SCC) lurched into action this past Thursday when delagates from all five student governments met to formulate an agenda for the fledgling body. With little precedence to draw from, the SCC is hoping to establish a clear purpose in the coming months. For now, those present voted into existence two ad-hoc committees in order to deal with the issues they considered most pressing to students on the five campuses. A social committee and parking committee were formed, but have yet to meet in any formal manner. [con't]

RA reported someone broke a pool cue and produced a fake ID while students moved a Campus Safety cart into the range of a sprinkler and tried to tip it over. The party was dispersed. [con't]
Senate BriefsCommissioner of Food and Residence Halls Samantha Brenner 01 reported on the open forum concerning salmonella held Monday in Frank. She does not expect Aramark to commit to opening Frary next week. Brenner also spoke briefly about her appearance on Monday Night Live, during which she fielded questions about Aramark and gave her opinion on the matter. She said some students voiced a desire to sue for emotional distress. At this point discussion on Aramark was postponed until Dean of Students Ann Quinley could arrive. [con't]
