Freshman Champions Breasts and Abortions

Jacob Sloane

Opinions Associate

I am out of 1000-word opinions. In any case, I doubt you have the attention span to deal with my typical article anyway. Therefore I will give you a few mini-opinions this week, each of which is just long enough to tell you what I think but not long enough for me to justify the opinion.

•Computers. I hate computers. Two different computers ate my first two articles. And it wasn’t because I didn’t save–it happened when I tried to save. This article, therefore, will be written very quickly and with a minimum of attention, like most of my essays. I think that this computer is possessed by an evil spirit. [con't]

Thanks for the Memories, and the Socks

I don’t really like to mark the passage of time by events, so I’m going to spare you the ceremony that usually accompanies events like this. However, I just thought I would remind those of you who are sweating alcohol or frantically trying to read the seven books that will be covered on your Monday morning final that school is just about over. Can I get a woo-hoo? [con't]

More Userspace, Less Downtime Requires Extra Cash

My computer recently decided to go on the fritz, and I had the opportunity to spend a week computing with OIT. The experience reminded me of something my mother never hesitated to remind me: you never know you appreciate something until it’s taken away from you.

OIT’s services can be split into two familiar categories–VMS accounts and Novell accounts. The VMS accounts are accessed through the old "telnet pomona.edu" routine, and are where familiar programs like pine and lynx are located. Why Pomona uses VMS is a mystery to me, and in an informal poll of OIT consultants, a mystery to OIT as well. [con't]
