Gaines to Continue His Fight for Tenure

Professor of Psychology Stanley Gaines, who claims the College discriminated against him in denying him tenure last semester, is continuing his fight to keep his job.

Gaines wants President Peter Stanley to renominate him for tenure under the guidelines established in the Faculty Handbook. According to the Faculty Handbook, "the President may, however, renominate a candidate in the same academic year only…if substantial new evidence comes to light." [con't]


Brown Scholar Receives Mellon Grant

A doctoral candidate from Brown University has been selected as the first Mellon postdoctoral fellow. Jennifer Ting will teach Asian American literature at Pomona for two years starting in the fall.

"We [the selection committee] are very excited about the work she has done. Her dissertation seems to us to be a topic that is understudied in the field of Asia American studies and is a very exciting way to look at the field," said English Department Chair and member of the selection committee for the Mellon grant Cristanne Miller. AARC Seeks Assistant Director

The search committee for finding a new assistant director of the Asian American Resource Center (AARC) will be announcing its selection soon. Alyson De La Cruz, the current assistant director, will be leaving at the end of this year.

Alyson De La Cruz came to Pomona’s AARC in August of 1996. Fresh from graduating from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, De La Cruz came to the AARC by chance when a friend saw the opening and informed De La Cruz. [con't]
