Committee Must Show Respect

This weekend, the Worker Support Committee (WSC) plans to demonstrate in order to educate the Alumni about the ongoing situation with Aramark.

I would like to encourage them to seriously rethink this action.

A demonstration over Alumni Weekend serves no purpose. At most, it will disrupt what, for many alumni, is a very special weekend. And for what purpose? The alumni will not be able to force the presidents to force Aramark to sign the Non-Intimidation/Neutrality Agreement. While some might be interested in the claims of the WSC, many are not interested in the current politics of Pomona. [con't]

Course Review Not So Shabby

Editor,

The criticisms leveled at the Student Course Review by Mr. Gernes last week are at least partially valid. Nevertheless, many of his assertions need to be further explained, clarified and put in their proper context so let me do so here.

The number of classes offered next semester falls short of the number of classes reviewed:

This point is absolutely true. The shortfall can partially be attributed to the selection criteria currently in place. To receive surveys, a class must be taught by a tenured or tenure-track faculty member. Classes taught by visiting faculty are not reviewed since it is not sensible to include classes taught by professors who likely won’t be here next year. [con't]

Students Defend Demonstration

Editor,

We participated in the Worker Support Committee sleepover in front of President Stanley’s house on Thursday, April 15. After reading the letter he wrote in response the next day, we were concerned about several erroneous statements and misperceptions it contained. We have been following the WSC’s actions this year and feel that the group was unfairly treated in Mr. Stanley’s letter. We were hurt, saddened, and a bit shocked by the letter, because–although we believe that Aramark workers have really suffered this year–we do not ever intend to partake in the activities alleged by Mr. Stanley, and certainly did not do so Thursday night. The six of us would like to tell you what actually happened outside the President’s house that evening. [con't]

Senate Apologizes For Campaign

Editor,

The Senate would like to apologize for problems that arose during elections week. Several problems resulted from changes made to the Elections Code by the Senate earlier this year. These changes were made with concerns from last year in mind. While the revision helped in some regards, the net impact was clearly negative. [con't]
