Phi Delta Party Cut Was Wrong Editor, I am a member of the Phi Delta Fraternity. I do not intend this as a response to the recent allegations against Phi Delta. I am writing this letter because I like parties. Phi Deltas Motown is historically one of the biggest, wildest, and most enjoyable affairs of the year. Motown was scheduled for April 3, and in accordance with ABCs alcohol policies, this Motown was to be a free event. Unfortunately, on March 30 Associate Dean of Students Neil Gerard canceled Motown. Gerard made this rash and hasty decision the same day an anonymous group posted flyers containing unsubstantiated accusations about the fraternitys initiation. As reported in the April 2 edition of The Student Life, the ASPC Senate is currently considering the accusations. Needless to say, Saturday night proved itself to be another dull night on Pomonas campus, consisting of small, isolated keg parties in violations of college policy. It has been more than a week since the original accusations. Phi Delta has been charged with nothing. However, social life at Pomona suffers. I encourage Mr. Gerard and other members of the administration to put aside personal prejudices and closely examine suspect rumors before making decisions which not only besmirch the name of an organization, but squash another potential bit of fun at Pomona College. Sincerely, Anthony Newman 99 Top | Back to Editorials and Letters | Next |
