A Shout Out for Renewable Energy
This alumnus, for one, is really glad to see an interest in renewable energy  on campus. So, Pomona is going to build a biology building that is energy efficient with renewable energy sources. Some people might think, "so what." On the contrary, this sort of vision for a new academic building might never have materialized if it was not for continuous interest shown by student activists, faculty, and alumni. Students are often overlooked when it comes to Pomona's all important capital projects. Yet, if enough people give a shout out to renewable energy, someone in the trustees or the administration might think twice before they build another disgusting energy-guzzling monument to environmental abuse on campus (and furnish it with teak). Talking to the trustees, other students, and anyone who will listen really is effective. Everyone should try this. Hey, schmoozing is how everything gets done. On the side, I really want to thank this newspaper for mentioning duplicating services in Alexander Hall. When I was still at Pomona, our student organizations did not have a lot of resources, but the cheerful people in Alexander Hall were always glad to help us make hundreds of copies of fliers, even on re-used paper, whenever we wanted to spread the word. In summary, raise enough of a ruckus, and our school will listen. The slang interpretation of all this is praxis.
