  The Battle of the Julias
From the Editorial Board

This is not a joke; it’s just kind of a silly Editorial Board topic (unlike Snack, which is not a silly Editorial Board topic). The fine folks here at The Student Life would like to take a moment to reflect on how much better this year’s ASPC Vice President Julia [Stiglitz] is than last year’s ASPC Vice President Julia [Patzelt]. You might be thinking: That is not saying much. And, you would be right, but this year’s Julia is not just better by default, she’s actually a very good Vice President and a very good person.

This year’s Julia is polite and pleasant (and thus the complete opposite of last year’s Julia). While last year’s Julia was notorious for glaring at people, refusing to answer straightforward questions, and getting perverse pleasure from saying no to even the simplest of requests, this year’s Julia is well-liked for being level-headed, easy to work with, and genuinely caring towards her fellow students. She even smiles at people, as opposed to power-walking past them and being too cool to talk to her constituents. (She even thinks it is important to address the needs of students of color!) Notably, this year’s Julia also refrains from rolling her eyes, making flip retorts, and sighing loudly in Senate and Budget Committee meetings in order to make her point. Instead, she sticks to the issues and articulately expresses her opinion in a respectful tone.

Other exciting things about our current Julia include: she is a good listener, she has integrity, she is down-to-earth—no creepy senator’s wife-type dresses and hair. She is effective without being tyrannical. She is open to criticism. She is really not interested in telling her peers how much she alone does for Pomona College.

In conclusion, the fine folks here at The Student Life would like to applaud the student body for electing a much better Julia to serve as ASPC Vice President this year.
