Duplicating Services Underappreciated
The Editorial Board
Pomona College provides many resources to its students in
order to make their lives a little easier, such as the escort
service, printing quotas, and housekeeping services in students'
private bathrooms. The fine folks here at The Student Life
would like to highlight another resource that is underappreciated:
Duplicating Services.
Duplicating Services, located in Alexander Hall (the power
building), is amazing. Staffed by Hilda Dinolfo and Connie
Inman, Duplicating Services offers full-service photocopying,
color copying, printing, laminating, binding, transparency-making,
table tent printing, and more—all for incredibly reasonable
prices. More than reasonable, in fact; it's the cheapest you'll
find.
The fine people at Duplicating Services will make photocopies
on any color paper for four cents per copy, and you can upgrade
to cardstock for just two cents more. One-sided color copies
cost just 30 cents (compared to one dollar in the computer
lab) and it's 15 cents for the second side. The staff even
does its best to get orders done the same day.
Even if you have a complicated order, they will handle it,
and with no additional fees. Duplicating Services will even
print and photocopy from electronic files submitted by e-mail
—you do not even have to leave your room. Let's say
you have an electronic file that is 50 pages and you want
double-sided copies made on different colors of cardstock;
also, you want certain sides of certain pages printed in color
and others in black and white. The staff will do it flawlessly,
and can have it done for you the same day (well, most likely).
They will even smile.
Many student organizations and faculty members utilize Duplicating
Services. However, it is far less common for individual students
to use Duplicating Services for personal projects. Being able
to pass some of your work off to someone else, for a very
small fee, greatly helps to relieve stress. So, next time
you need to make hand-outs for class, print invitations, or
print digital photographs, take your order to Duplicating
Services. As per usual, the fine folks at The Student Life
are simply trying to help out and inform the community.
