IMPORTANT STUFF
The Senate meeting opened with instructions from ASPC
President Ari Greenberg ‘04 to pressure President
David Oxtoby to share the cheesecake that University
of Chicago gave to Pomona after our football victory.
Senators then discussed the purpose and dates of their
upcoming retreat.
COMMITTEES
Senior Class President Jacqueline Wong-Hernandez presented
nominations for the Young Alumnus Committee, while Greenberg
postponed the announcement of Speaker Committee nominations.
Senators were then assigned to the Coop Committee and
the Budget/Executive Committees for CCLA.
BUDGET ISSUES
ASPC Vice President Julia Stiglitz ‘04 announced
that the CCLA decided to fund 60 percent of their requests
for alcohol funds, as last year’s full support
resulted in monopolization the budget. Members of the
Rowing Club were present at the meeting to answer questions
about their request for $10,000. The budget committee
recommended $1,000, but Sports Commissioner Ashley Hovey
‘06 suggested that Senate raise the request to
$1,500. Before the amended request could be passed,
South Campus Representative Galen Benshoof ’06
suggested that the meeting be closed to non-Senate members
for the voting. The Rowing Team, TSL writer, and Senate/Presidential
Aids were asked to leave, but later it was determined
that such a closure was not in accordance to the bylaws,
and the meeting was re-opened. The amended motion was
passed.
RLAC AGAIN
Residence Halls and Food Commissioner Karanda Bowman
’05 presented the final changes to the bylaws,
which will be approved by a vote from the Student Body.
Stiglitz made an impassioned plea for the resurrection
of the title of Dorm President, and it was decided that
the issue would be revisited at the end of the year.
TICKET PRICES
Senators then discussed the price of Jurassic 5 tickets
for the upcoming concert. Greenberg wondered if students
would be willing to pay $20 for the concert, and Sophomore
Class President Chris Thompson insisted that the fifteen
or so friends he had surveyed would indeed still buy
tickets to the show. Others suggested that the price
of tickets for the general public be raised.
THE END
The Claremont Colleges are still looking for a student
to serve on the Claremont City Council, the 5C Presidential
Council is holding meetings every other week, and Harwood
Halloween tickets are now on sale. Communications Commissioner
Tunji Balogun ’04 announced that ITS had developed
a plan for helping study abroad students to regain access
to their email accounts.
