Food Ideas Misguided
Editor,

First, my hat is off to most competent editors Joshua & Jacqueline and the long-suffering Mr.Thakkar. However, my hat is not off to Sinead Hunt and her silly article "Sustainable Food In Dining Halls..." While its sound-byte liberal buzzworthiness may deceive some, I am not fooled. And neither should you be. The truth is that farming does NOT fall into two categories as asserted in the article: happy family organic farming and big mean industrial pesticide farming. The majority of small family farms, which Ms. Hunt urges us to support in our dining halls, are non-organic. Many use GMO's, which actually reduce the need for the harmful pesticides she speaks of. And while GMO's have been the subject of controversy, most small family farms would fold without them because of the enormous cost and labor associated with both organic and more traditional farming methods. Sadly, it is clear Ms. Hunt has not spent any time around farmers or on family farms, or she would be sensitive to the delicate balance which these farmers tread in order to put food on their family's table, as well as ours.

PS- On a more serious note, I would also like to contest the nomenclature "Honda Uglyment" used in Rant Farm two weeks ago. Shut up about that sad, sad deformed little car. It has suffered enough and there are far too many wounded Elements for me to love as it is.
