Elections Delay Justified

Editor,

I am writing to clarify some apparent confusion evident in last week’s editorial regarding the scheduling of the A.S.P.C. fall elections. Holding the elections at a later date was a conscious decision made by the Senate so as to allow first-years to become more familiar with their potential representatives and pertinent campus issues. These representatives will be making important decisions throughout the course of the entire year. While the official A.S.P.C. budget committee cannot convene until after the fall elections, all budget requests can be granted by the Senate at large. All students and organizations that have filed official budget requests have been informed of the option of presenting their request to the entire Senate. This includes requests made to the alcohol fund which has been and remains accessible and open. I understand that appealing to the entire Senate for a request may cause a slight inconvenience, but surely having a more informed electoral body that will in turn elect more effective and qualified representatives far outweighs the minimal inconvenience that it may cause.

Respectfully,
Julia Stiglitz
A.S.P.C. Vice President
