Calling for 'Resistance'
is Paramount to Treason
It is difficult to find words to express the absolute outrage
I felt upon reading Kavin Paulraj's article "Keep on
Protesting" in your last issue. In all seriousness, and
without the slightest hints of sarcasm, bravado or, exaggeration
I hereby call out Mr. Paulraj as a traitor to the United States
of America. He writes:
"The anti-war movement could not prevent U.S. aggression,
so we must now support resistance against the United
States. The mainstream media has [already] begun to
label Iraqi resistance fighters as "terrorists."
But resistance in [this] case is a justified resistance
against an occupying force...we owe it to our brothers and
sisters in other countries to agitate, boycott, and overthrow
the imperialist regime that rules us."
Translation: Mr. Paulraj wants American servicemen to die.
He wants your classmate Paul Nesvig to die.
In a democracy, there has been - and will always be - a fine
line between legitimate dissent and outright treason. But
Benedict Arnold certainly crossed that line. So did Alger
Hiss. So did the Rosenbergs. So did Jonathan Pollard, Robert
Hansen, and John Walker Lindh. And so - I am afraid to say
- did Kavin Paulraj last Friday.
Ms. Wong-Hernandez, if you have even a hint of conscience
or patriotism, you must not only fire Mr. Paulraj, but resign
your position as Editor-in-Chief immediately. There can be
no excuse for publishing this kind of filth.
Sincerely,
Tom Meyer, CMC '03
