Rethink Routine Rites
By Allison Moser
Production Manager

Summer waits right around the corner, and that feeling of the proximity of our end paralyzes action in strange ways. Only so much can be accomplished in slightly less than a month. You can get to know new people only in a preliminary sort of way. That new relationship barely has a chance to grow into trust. So, with books to read, papers to write, and midterms to struggle through, we easily brush aside possibilities that require an investment in an unfamiliar circumstance.

Snuggling into routine and ignoring the new, however, comes with costs. We should see the end of the year not as a reason to scale back the exploration of the unknown, but as a last opportunity to do the opposite. See the end of the year with the freedom inherent in the apocalypse. Recognize that the you that exists now-a freshman, a potential philosophy major, a sponsor-will cease to be next year.

Your world will change. The summer could transform you and your potential. View the end of May as your doom, and act accordingly.

Make daily choices with the freshness of knowing that a summer lies between you and potential consequences. Break your patterns like there's no tomorrow.
