The bells of war are starting to ring just too
loudly in America without the proper debate or discussion that
should accompany placing our soldiers in harm’s way. War
is not a video game. As a Navy veteran of Viet Nam, I have come
to appreciate the quality of life in America, and just how special
our Constitution and Bill of Rights are — truly unique documents
done right the first time. The current administration, and just
a select group of five, have chosen a course of action that both
the entire world, and a majority of past administration members
and military, all oppose. It is time for the American public to
do something, since Bush does not hear us; he ignores Congress,
and Ashcroft dreams of new internment camps. Somehow, someone,
somewhere must be able to start a recall against Bush —
he may be President, but he is not King. His over whelming need
to avenge his father for Iraq is not how this country should be
governed. Some ideals are worth giving one’s life for; this
is not one of them by any stretch of the imagination. Write your
representatives in government, while you still can; collect signatures,
while you still can; hold demonstrations, while you still can,
to express your view — if we don’t now we will never
be heard and the body bags will start all over again. At least
in Viet Nam I was defending the South from the North — Iraq
is just a personal vendetta for a monarch of a family. I would
not fight for that, and I consider myself a good America who served
his country honorably. I love America but we need to start balancing
our needs with the rest of the world. Not only is it the right
thing to do, it will give us much more security in the long run.
Please give this letter your most serious consideration; American
lives may depend on your actions.
Thank you,
