P-P Hits Three Game Slide After Hot Start

Monday’s game versus Chapman was a harsh exclamation point to the recent woes of the Pomona-Pitzer women’s basketball team.

After bursting out of the gates with a promising 2-0 start to the season, the Hens have been shot back down to earth with a three game losing streak where they have been outscored by an average of 27.7 points per game.

Diving Flick Shows Successful Premier

It will be easy for Pomona-Pitzer’s men’s divers to improve over their performance last season: last season there was no team.

The result was that Coach Troyer’s men’s swim team found it tough to compete against squads that could win full points in the diving section of each competition.

Rugby Gets Down and Dirty

The five-college rugby team got back into the swing of things this week as it took on the UCLA Bruins, Saturday.

Despite a 31-25 loss in the final minutes of the game, the 5-C team is getting needed experience for the spring season.

Dancers Win National Championship

Making its first trip to the Nataional Collegiate Dancesport Competition, the Claremont Colleges Ballroom Dance Company performed well enough to win the Latin Formation competition, the team’s only event. The Championships, which were part of the 2001 Ohio Star Ball in Columbus, ran the weekend of November 16-17.

Intramural Sports Give Washed-Up Athletes a Chance

A light rain falls purposefully down from a lint-colored sky turning the thick grass field into an iceless slip-n-slide. Most of the players aren’t wearing decent shoes; and their battle is thus waged on two fronts, against the ball and against their environment.

Bishop Falls to Sickness in NCAA Nationals

Sometimes, no matter how hard someone works, things don’t turn out the way they should. No one needs to tell that to Laura Bishop’03.

At the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships, Bishop competed with enough spirit to become an All-American. However, fate came between her hopes and reality, as she couldn’t finish the race.

Men Lose to Menlo

Just seven games into the season, Pomona-Pitzer’s Men’s Basketball team has tallied a surprising three wins. A two point loss to Menlo College on Wednesday night brought them to a 3-4 record.

A .500 record usually isn’t much to brag about, but with this team its an impressive accomplishment. With the SCIAC conference schedule rapidly approaching, this team could sneak up on a lot of conference opponents.

P-P Swimmers Prove Their Mettle Against Division I Competition

On Saturday, December 1, a select group of members of the Pomona-Pitzer men’s and women’s swim teams traveled to the Speedo Cup at Long Beach to race against some of the top collegiate swimmers–Division I included.

Leading the men’s team, Ben Komer ‘02 placed 8th in the 50 meter freestyle with a personal best time of :20.59, which also set a Sagehen record. Komer qualified for Nationals with that time, as he did in the 100 meter freestyle.
