Students Burgled over Thanksgiving

By TSL STAFF

A dorm room in Clark I was burglarized over Thanksgiving break, with the thieves making off with more than $7,000 worth of items, Claremont Police Department sergeant Paul Davenport said..

A junior, who wished to remain anonymous, returned from break on November 24 to find the door to his room "pried" open and the windows open, said Davenport.

The student had left both the door and the windows closed and locked before leaving for break.

The student notified Campus Safety, who, in turn, contacted the Claremont Police Department. The burglary is still under investigation by a Claremont Police detective, Davenport said.

Among the items stolen from the room were Sony Play Stations, a laptop, watches, two Gemini turn-tables and a Gemini mixer.

"Instances of actual breaking in are quite rare. Typically our thefts occur from unlocked rooms. Certainly there have been incidents in the past where incidents have happened," said Campus Safety Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant John Teuber.

Campus Safety passes any burglary exceeding $5,000 on to the Claremont Police Department.
