We Have Not Failed America
A report entitled,"Defending Civilization," was recently published to impart upon us, as Americans and as members of academia, the egregious flaw in todays academic society. A project of the Council of Trustees and Alumni, this report puts blame upon the faculty of Americas colleges and universities as the "weak link in Americas response to the [September 11] attack." Referencing a speech made by Lynne Cheney, the report ignorantly and disrespectfully posits that "we need to understand" that our country is being led astray by those people previously entrusted with the educations of the nations freshest and most promising minds.

How Much Will We Recognize?
The conclusion of this semester sees Pomona College, as always, in flux. But while significant change at Pomona has been always inherent to its nature as a community of changing people, our upcoming return to the "real world," if only temporary, will be affected by a historic shift in context; we will go, now, to see how much of our world we still recognize.

Race Issues Should Be Dealt With Strictly By Pomona Administration
I am writing to express my concern that this situation was not given the consideration it was due. With regards to the seriousness of the assault as well as the racial and sexualized insults, I feel that this issue should have been approached with less leniency and more direct action. Anytime a member of the college community assaults another member, and in the process expresses racial and sexual epithets, the assaulting member should be given a clear and decisive message that this behavior will neither be permitted nor tolerated in this community.
Student Urges Voicing of Opinions
Wow. What is going on? This letter is being typed in an internet cafe on the East African Coast, the same cafe thats been my single source of interaction with the outside world for the past 3 months. Through emails and the convenience of TSL online Ive been able to follow...minute-by-minute...the events, not of September eleventh, but of the Valorie Thomas/Grey Norton/Mike Cadoux catastrophe.
Student Bothered by Campus Reaction to Judiciary Board Case
When I first heard that Professor Valorie Thomas had been physically and verbally attacked, I was disgusted. All I could think about was what a great resource she has been for me and many other students. I know that without respectable, knowledgeable, and compassionate professors like Professor Thomas, I would not have been able to reach my senior year in the racially hostile environment of Pomona College.
Race Issues at Pomona Need To Be Questioned and Interpreted
After four years at Pomona, Im shocked at my surprise that many people still seem unable to perceive the underlying roots that create the hostilities, which keep us continually divided. The idyllic dream world Pomona professes to be is a manipulative attempt to disguise or at least not face reality.
Eco Club Proposes Environmental Review Committee
We all live in one of the wealthiest and most consumptive societies in the world. And it is a remarkable time to be alive. We are the generation that will have to deal with the draining of the worlds petroleum supply. Many say that it is in our lifetime that the world population will reach the nine billion point. Sometimes looking at all of the statistics and predictions looming over us can be quite overwhelming.
