Multicultural Hall sponsors an altar for Day of the Dead, held November 2. Hall residents Janne Olson ’02 and Natalia Averett ’04 provide information on the Mexican holiday to students passing through the Smith Campus Center. The display, a traditional Day of the Dead altar, included sugar skulls, candles, and written rememberences commemorating the dead, especially those lost in the September 11 attacks. 5-C, Pitzer President Resigns Following Assault Conviction

The Pitzer Student Senate meeting on Sunday, November 4, convened in McConnell Center with unusually high attendance–roughly 20 senators and over 70 students were present for the reading of the official resignation, submitted by Anoop Anand PI ’02, the Five College and Pitzer Student Senate President.

Faculty Resident’s Car Vandalized

Shock and disappointment followed from a report this week of vandalism against Professor of English and Harwood Faculty Resident Valorie Thomas’ automobile.

Suspension Appealed

Citing lack of due process in the J-Board hearing that resulted in their one-year suspension, Michael Cadoux ’04 and Grey Norton ’04 have filed an appeal, alleging "improper judicial procedure and extraordinary circumstances" surrounding the process, according to Philosophy Professor Fred Sontag, who began advising the students after their hearing.

SAC Considers Frat’s Plea

The Student Affairs Committee (SAC) plans to send the Phi Delta fraternity a letter this week specifying the minimum conditions they must satisfy to be re-chartered by the college.

Civil Liberties Discussed at Forum

The state of civil liberties in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks was the topic for the Monday, November 4 Frary Blue Room discussion panel, which included Politics professors Leo Flynn and John Seery, as well as Rose Ash, President of the Pomona Valley chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Pulitzer Prize Winner Speaks on Campus

Just under a hundred people gathered in the upstairs of the Smith Campus Center Tuesday afternoon to hear Pulitzer Prize winner and PBS analyst Haynes Johnson promote his new book, The Best of Times: America in the Clinton Years, as well as discuss the causes and ramifications of the terrorist attacks and the subsequent bombing in Afghanistan.

Adminstration Curbs Drinking in Public

Many students ignored the e-mail sent by Dean Quinley stating that Pomona’s alcohol policy would now be enforced more strictly than it has been in the past. Unfortunately for those students, this increase in policy enforcement has indeed been enacted, and over the past two weeks many students have had to talk to Campus Security about carrying around an open container of alcohol.
