Restrictions on Co-Ed Housing Reveal Lack of Faith in Students

By ROBIN STARR

The big fear about co-ed roommates is that people would use the arrangement in order to legally cohabitate with one’s significant other. This is a rather archaic and puritan notion. Guess what? College students do have sex, and the Pomona administration cannot prevent it through the use of outdated policies. The policy of not allowing opposite-sex roommates does little to prevent opposite-sex encounters with the door closed, but it does create an unfair and narrow-minded housing code.

Electric Vehicless Require Better Technology

Society now sits on the other side of the so-called "Bridge to the New Millennium." So after hearing all of that crap about bridges and new millennia for a year or two, we find that society is indeed crossing a bridge. Society has been characterized by a set of transportation innovations that have changed our lives.

Instead of Protesting, Students Should Support the Government

By AUSTIN HARRIS

I was warmed by the pleasant, frank and earnest (if not somewhat goofy) manner in which our president informed the people that they should be on their guard. One reporter stood and asked the president, in an almost facetious manner, if it was not foolish to spread such information, since the government knew of no absolute details. Would not such a proclamation cause unnecessary panic? To this question, Bush calmly but firmly replied with a remarkable answer: Yes, it may increase worry.

Militant Vegans Should Just Eat and Let Eat

By PAM GREWAL

Two things come to mind when I think of lack of tact and respect shown by the conscious eating movement. First, there are table tents in dining halls describing the horrors of factory farming and why people should become vegetarians or vegans. How could you NOT get defensive as you eat a steak or drink a glass of milk and read about what a terrible person these people think you are?

Information Technology Services Help Desk Needs Better Training

By JUSTIN DURIVAGE

What does the acronym POST stand for? What about BIOS? Do you know what to do when your computer complains that Novell isn’t functioning properly? Most people don’t know the answers to these questions, and they shouldn’t have to. When your computer stops working, all anyone should have to do is to call the ITS help desk. The thing is, every time I call ITS, I get the sinking feeling that I’m going to have to look elsewhere, because the help desk consultant on duty doesn’t know how to solve the problem.
