Student March Protests War in Afghanistan

Peace signs and anti-war slogans, both symbols of a bygone era, were back on campus last Thursday, October 5, as a group of approximately 75 protestors marched from the Scripps campus, through Claremont McKenna and Pomona, to the intersection of Indian Hill Boulevard and Arrow Highway in a demonstration against sustained US military action in Afghanistan.

Stiglitz Wins Nobel Prize in Economics

The 2001 Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel was awarded to Professors Joe A. Akerlof of UC Berkeley, A. Michael Spence of Stanford University and Joseph E. Stiglitz of Columbia University on October 10 for their analysis of markets with asymmetric information.

The student peace movement at the Claremont Colleges continued to gather momentum as roughly fifteen students from various campus organizations last Friday at Claremont McKenna’s Collins Dining Hall to discuss promoting peace in world affairs amidst U.S. air strikes against Afghanistan.
