U.S. Propaganda Effort Misguided
For those of you who havent been following the TV news or any other forms of mass media, a holy war is being waged from the land, air, and seas under the dominion of the United States against the mountainous, rocky terrain of Afghanistan. Yet, despite how our media has projected the view of this religious and political crusade upon the leaders of our newfound enemy, the Taliban, America too has stakes of similar proportions to loseour nationalism and our confidence in our own impenetrability.

Say No To The Surveillance State
There has been much talk in recent weeks of the need to curtail civil liberties to protect America from terrorism. This is an old argument, an ancient trade-off, between liberty and security, and it is not surprising that a time of crisis will bring it into the spotlight once again. The threat to our security is terrifying, to some almost paralyzingly so. The United States House of Representatives has shut down out of fear of anthrax contamination, symbolizing the increasingly destructive anxiety that is gripping the nation.

Allegations In J-Board Trial Disputed
We are writing in response to the letter to the editor printed in this Friday s issue of TSL [October 12, 2001, "Harassment Policy Inadequate"] regarding the "treatment" of Professor Thomas harassment case. This letter makes unfounded accusations that grossly misrepresent the facts of this case.
CMC Finally Admits Their Inferiority
After reading Mr. Cyrus Diouns article "The One And Only Good Reason To Go To CMC," we realized just how wrong the stereotype of the pompous, condescending Pomona student is. It was so magnanimous of Mr. Dioun to grace this side of 6th Street with his weighty intellect and witty charm.
Mentor Programs Atone For Lack of Diversity
I dont know what all this nonsense is about. I have lots of white friends at this school. In fact, Id have to say most of my friends are white. But I am sick and tired of hearing people complain about racial cliques and mentoring programs on campus.
Opinions About Judiciary Board Trial Did Not Belong Media Open Forum
I am writing in response to the letter entitled "Harassment Policy Inadequate" that was published in the October 12 edition of TSL. While the letter addresses a perceived lack of importance given to the events of the early hours of September 9 by the Office of Student Affairs, I see it as a thinly veiled attempt to slander two members of the Pomona College community.
Mishandling of Harassment Case Leaves J-Board Open To Criticism
The treatment of Grey Norton and Michael Cadoux, the two students who were suspended last week, is outrageous. Professor Thomas behavior has been unprofessional, and Dean of Students Ann Quinleys handling of the matter has been poor, to say the least. I write this letter in protest of the lack of due process in Grey and Mikes J-Board hearing and the unprecedented harshness of their sentence.
Pomona Needs to Make Diversity and Awareness an Important Priority
I go to "one of the most diverse colleges" in the United States. Im not proud of that. Apparently, Pomonas claim to diversity lies in the fact that, according to statistics, she is more diverse than many other colleges and universities.
