Media Studies Program Updates Equipment

As the most recent changes in the media studies curriculum over the past couple of years, the Media Studies program is now adding equipment for a new multimedia room in the Information Technology Services (ITS) building, slated to open in late October, and other equipment for video production.

On September 24, Dean of Students Ann Quinley distributed a mass e-mail in which she explained that Pomona College would be undergoing a review by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Judiciary Board to Consider Misconduct

In the early hours of September 9, Harwood faculty resident Valorie Thomas reported an argument between several Pomona students and herself to Campus Safety. An officer arrived at Harwood at 1:40 a.m., to find that the students had already left.

Zero Hour Program Teaches Defense

On Saturday night, seven Claremont Colleges’ women graduated from Zero-Hour, an intense ten-hour self-defense class. The class, held at Scripps, taught the women techniques for verbally and physically defending themselves against assailants.

Virus Strikes Pomona

On Tuesday, September 18, students awoke to find the following message from Information Technology Services (ITS) Support Specialist Brett Watts: "Pomona College is currently being hit by a Server Denial of Service (DoS) attack [against] our Webmail servers and our department web servers….The Webmail services have been taken offline until a conclusive disinfecting procedure is available."

Harmful Asbestos Slated for Removal

Last Friday, September 26, Vice President and Treasurer of the College Carlene Miller sent out e-mails to faculty, staff, and students containing the 2001 Asbestos-Containing Materials Report. The report lists on-campus buildings containing the dangerous substance.
