Cross Country Opens Stride at Riverside

The men’s and women’s cross country teams of Pomona-Pitzer traveled to the UC Riverside Invitational Saturday, September 22, finishing in the twentieth and twenty-third places, respectively. In the 8,000 meter run, the men’s team were led by Nate Defelice ’04 (27:11.4, 53rd place overall) and Braden Boice ’05 (28:29.4, 125th place overall). Top P-P finishers in the women’s 5,000 meter event were Stefanie McDougall ’04 (20:43.0, 95th place) and Erin Wagner ’03 (21:05.0, 115th place). Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the men’s overall field, while UC Irvine won the women’s.

Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball Sticks it to Beavers

Tuesday’s SCIAC opener against Cal Tech was a sigh of relief for the 0-6 squad, as they beat the Beavers in straight sets, 30-10, 30-10, 30-14 to improve to 1-6 on the season. In fact, the victory gives the team an unblemished 1-0 record in SCIAC and puts them atop the conference standings.

Sagehens 1, Cal Lu 0, Referee: Priceless

California Lutheran’s performance against Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, September 22nd, had members of its entourage seeing red, literally. Frustrated with his team’s inability to penetrate Pomona-Pitzer’s stifling, tenacious defense, a Cal Lu coach went on the offensive himself, consistently expressing his disagreement with the referee’s decisions.

Women’s Soccer Looks for Second-Half Turn

Sagehen sports fans demoralized by the Pomona-Pitzer football squad’s recent losing streak might be looking to water polo, cross-country, or women’s soccer to refresh their depleted school spirit. However, they would be sorely disappointed with that last option, as the Sagehen’s women’s soccer team has been even less successful than football so far this season.

Lewis & Clark Explores Pomona-Pitzer Endzone Seven Times, Wins 49-27

What seemed like an even match-up half way through the second quarter became a lopsided competition, as the Pioneers scored two quick touchdowns for a halftime 28-13 count. "We were in it until the last four minutes of the second quarter," said captain Matt LaCoss ’02. "But those points before halftime really hurt us."
