Sagehen Offense Sputters Against Tigers

The defining moment came on an Oberlin punt, when James Nachtwey ’02 and Joseph Cappola ’05 executed a picture-perfect reverse. Nachtwey fielded the punt and started running to his right, but then handed the ball off to Cappola, who used a wall of Pomona blockers to scamper down the left sidelines and into the endzone for a 43-yard, game-winning touchdown.

Men’s Soccer Falls to Claremont-M-S

The temperature approached 90 degrees last Saturday as Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps mens’ soccer teams battled for early dominance in the SCIAC. The only things missing from the game were decent shade and, perhaps, a snack bar.

Water Polo Hosts Tourney, Beats Occidental

"It’s been five years since Oxy has beaten us, and I know they were playing for this as one they could get," said Pomona-Pitzer men’s water polo coach Gary Troyer. Unfortunately for Occidental, they underestimated the Sagehens yet again.

Claremont-M-S Holds Off Sagehen Women’s Soccer, 1-0

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps handed the Sagehens their second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss in a nail-biting 1-0 finish on Saturday at CMC. The Athenas’ Sarah Carlson made the only goal of the game off a pass from Laura Green with nine minutes remaining in the first half. Despite an inspiring second half effort, the Hens were unable to find the back of the net.

NCAA Deals with US Terrorist Tragedy

In the wake of the tragic events of Tuesday, September 11, Americans throughout the nation were forced to make decisions about how death and destruction would affect their lives. What would they do to pay tribute to the individuals who have suffered? When and how could they resume their normal schedules? Collegiate athletic directors, coaches, and athletes asked themselves these questions before deciding whether to go through with athletic contests, or to postpone or cancel those events.

Player Speaks Out About Lack of Fan Support

This past Saturday, September 15, the Pomona-Pitzer men’s soccer team played its conference opener at home against arch-rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. By kickoff, our field was well-populated with spectators. Five minutes into the game, it was clear that the vast majority of those in attendance were not supporting the blue and orange. Indeed, an early goal by Matt Lee-Ashley ‘04 was met with few cheers other than those from the Sagehen bench.
