The Tight Bro's Lend You a Hand

(Kill Rock Stars 2001)

The Tight Bro's are back with more of their infectious brand of AC/DC-influenced rock 'n' roll. This album contains the same energy and intensity as their previous efforts.

P.S. They just got a new drummer, Nat, from Akimbo. Play this with Dead Moon, Oblivians, Murder City Devils or any northwestern rock act. This album rules. Play the hell out of it.

Danse Macabre

(Saddle Creek 2001)

Omaha's The Faint are back with a third album. If you liked Blank-Wave Arcade, if it made you dance, then get ready to dance just as hard. Dark synth, clever and irresistible dance beats, and even guitar. This is going straight to #1 and it deserves it.

Clog

Thom's Night Out

(Brassland 2001)

This Australian quartet plays quiet, pretty instrumental music utilizing viola, bassoon and a variety of percussion. Mostly reserved, sometimes mournful, a bit eastern, a bit folly. If you like Rachel's, play this!

Bablicon

The Cat That Was a Dog

(Misra 2001)

Bablicon is a Chicago group with some connection to the Elephant 6 scene. They put two amazing CD's out during the last three years. Now down to a threesome, the band is more song oriented and as great as ever. Carefully composed songs, orchestral folk-pop (Gastr del sol, Jim O'Rourke), cinematic rock (Bernard Hermann), jazzy majesty (Tortoise and Sun Ra) and more.

W.A.C.O.

A Game of Cards

(Transparency/True Classical 2001)

From the same Silverlake scene that gave us the fabulous Centimeters,W.A.C.O. plays good orchestrated-pop and catchy chamber rock. Their sound is a mixture of Roxy Music, John Cale, Soft Machine, Nick Cave, and Scott Walker. Plays well with Destroyer and Multiple Cat.
