Terrorist Attack Strikes New York, D.C. On the morning of Tuesday, September 11, at 8:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, American Airlines Flight 11 out of Boston, under the control of terrorist hijackers, crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Students awoke on Wednesday morning to see Walker Wall painted black from end to end, in remembrance of those who died in Tuesday mornings terrorist attack. Within hours of Tuesday mornings attack, Dean of Students Ann Quinley sent out a message informing students that there would be five campus-wide forums later that night where students, faculty, and administration could gather to talk about their emotions and reactions to the tragedy. Pomona Faculty and Administration React to News of Terrorist Attacks The college administration reacted swiftly on Tuesday morning to news of attacks on American cities. President Stanley released a statement to students by e-mail and posted on the Pomona College website (http://www.pomona.edu) addressing the disaster. National CrisisOpportunity for Liberal Learning at Pomona TSL asked Professor of English Martha Andresen what she thought the effects of Tuesdays attack might be on life at Pomona College. Economic Analysis of Attack: Predictions are not as Bleak as Many Expect TSL asked Professor of Economics Michael Kuehlwein for an anlaysis of the possible effects of Tuesdays attack on the U.S. economy. . . . as long as we have some trace of violence, hatred, or evilness in our hearts, it leaves room for evilness to exist in the outside world.
