Pot Day, 2001

Featured This Week: Susie Dudis, Pomona College ’01

So tell us some things about yourself?

I’m an Econ major from Pocomoe, Maryland.

What do you like?

I like the beach, cheeseburgers, and my family. My family is very important to me.

What about God?

I have a very strong belief in God and I don’t really like discussing it with people. I hope God isn’t reading this.

I like my mother’s writing, too.

Musical tastes?

Led Zeppelin, but everyone probably knows that already.

How do you feel that all of Dusty Baker’s Led Zeppelin CDs were destroyed in a fire?

It’s sad, but, you know, it’s rock’n’roll. I hope Dean Quinley gets Dusty a new guitar.

Dislikes?

I really dislike Simon and Garfunkel, judgemental people, and the fucking language requirement.

If you had to dislike one movie, what would it be?

Reality Bites [true.]

One trend in fashion?

Clothes [true.]

Who’s the unhappiest professor at Pomona?

I’ll have to get back to you. I have to think of someone that I don’t have right now.

If you could do it all over again, what would you change about your four years at Pomona?

I would have produced something of value. This is my attempt. Yeah, and that trip to Tijuana could have gone better.

What happened?

No comment. Ask Dan Brown.

What are your post-collegiate plans?

Work for awhile, make my way. Then when I’m 30 or 40 I’ll take over the family farm.

Why the fire extenguisher?

Never know when a fire’s gonna start.

High Brow or Friar Tuck’s?

You’ll find me at Foxy’s, on the corner of Central and Arrow. One dollar drinks Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 8-11pm.

We’ll see you there. So, tell all those matriculating midgits what they missed by not electing you as commencement speaker.

Well they’ll never get that because I lost, fuckers. But there’s this big Gender Studies thing, no celebration of men and women making love. I support men and men, women and women, men and animals, everything–but the way I was made–I love men. People are so concerned with picking apart "men" and "women". There is inequality in society, but we don’t have to cover up the differences between men and women. There are differences and we should love those differences.

Ever seen boys throw rocks? I was in the desert with these two boys and we were climbing up a cliff at sunrise. They started a fire with four matches in the wind. It was incredible. On a ledge, they set up a tower of rocks and walked yards and yards away. Then they just started throwing rocks. Their movements, that’s something beautiful that women don’t have and that’s why you got to love men.

There’s lots of reasons to love everyone, and we should celebrate all of these relationships equally, regardless of their point of origin.
