Time and again this semester, the ASPC Senate has failed to make strong movements toward addressing key issues on campus. In the most recent example, however, the Senate has committed the gravest error of all: with regard to the Bernard Field Station controversy, they have turned their backs on both the wants and needs of the students of Pomona College.

"The simple fact is that a handful of people who were really smart figured out how to make a ton of money selling the same product in essentially the same market conditions as before at 10 times the price." Michael Kahn, chairman of the California Electricity Oversight Board
A while before spring break I was traveling eastward on Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles in my humble 87 Honda Civic when I was confronted by an entourage of black Suburbans straight out of Traffic and a sleek limousine. My initial reaction was one of elation as I hoped to catch a glimpse of Slick Billy Clinton or any one of LAs numerous limousine liberals. Initial excitement was soon whisked away.

Hi folks! Isnt it a great day in the US of A? I am going to proselytize a little about a certain local piece of open space that is important to me, but I promise I will get off of the environmental issues soon. Maybe I will talk about CIA conspiracy theory, or anarchical syndicalism, or neoliberalism. You know what Samuel Johnson said? "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel." I kind of agree with that. Essentially, I love the country I live in, but I also answer to higher laws than the US Constitution.

"The paramount obligation of a college is to develop in its students the ability to think clearly and independently, and the ability to live confidently, courageously and hopefully." Ellen Browning Scripps, from the Mission Statement for Scripps College
As a newcomer to the Claremont Colleges, I first thought it was business as usual. You know, the old boy network of interlocking board memberships, the taint of commerce wafting through the halls of academe, the students intuitively opposed. They feel the Ellen Scripps of the San Diego Zoo and numerous parks and preserves from California to Michigan couldnt possibly support a biotech industry training facility on her land.
No Need for Sorries: Bush Stands Tough

George Bush is a Rubiks Cube. That is not to say that he is a maneuverable square, nor that he is brightly colored. The sentiment that this articles earlier rash statement was trying to convey was the idea that no one knows exactly how to figure this young Bush out. He is truly a riddle wrapped inside a conundrum if such a thing can exist.
He handles each new situation with a seemingly new approach. And perhaps for that very reason he is constantly second-guessed. He has not yet perfected a little thing that a buddy of mine on the playground once called styyyyyyyle. Sure, his hair is trimmed and parted in a nice and neat fashion.
