Charity? Is That Really a Thing?

Wow. The word has always been that too many Pomona College students are ridiculously apathetic, but Wednesday nights charity auction at Snack seemed to prove that, when given a setting in which were able to eat, procrastinate, and listen to two guys in cowboy hats, were more than willing to spend a lot of money on a lot of things that we never knew we wanted. We can all be tricked into charity, but many of us dont like to think about things, certainly not in our free time. And we just dont like to move. Charity? I dont know, whats that? Can you bring it to Snack for us, please? And is it quesadilla night? And can we please sit with our friends? And can our friends be robots? 0101 11?
The organizers of the auction seem to know us, and know that almost all of us are prone to spending large amounts of money on impulse buys for things that we really dont care to have. They totally tricked us! Good for them! Because they were sneaky for a good cause! And, oh my god, I totally LOVE picture frames! I love cookies and milk! And horsie rides! And TJ with BJ!
Finally, Pomona kids money-spending ways have been harnessed and tamed. The kids at Teamworks LA will benefit greatly from it all, and everyone who spent money at the auction gets to feel good, too. Maybe this auction will even put charity work on the map for at least some new recruits at Pomona.
Dinners with both Neil Gerard and Kathleen Fitzpatrick went for phenomenal amounts, even though Neils going to card kids for the wine and maybe even make them sit at the kiddie table with blue sippy cups and the puppy dog under the table. I give the undrunk kiddie dinner only one half a chefs hat for ambiance. Maybe one full one if the puppy dog is a beagle. Okay, okay, two and one half chefs hats because it is for charity. But I give the adult dinner ten chefs hats for being drunk with Neil Gerard, plus one and one half for charity, so eleven and one half.
