Women Swimmers Come Out Victorious in SCIAC

"Water, water everywhere, and not a drop to drink." Such was the sentiment of the womens swim team as they competed in the SCIAC Championships, Feb 15-17. Well, except the part about the "not a drop to drink," for they did indeed come amply prepared with fresh water. And they could have drunk the pool water, too, if they wanted. And I guess water wasnt everywhere, for they spent much of the time on the pool deck, which was dry.
Baseball Holds a Winning Record

I have this terrible habit of jumping to conclusions and casting judgment all-too-quickly. This is probably why I will never be a Clipper fan and will always view sociology majors as part-time students.
So when the Pomona-Pitzer baseball team fell last week to the Chapman Panthers 8-4, I immediately assumed that we would keel over and pretend to die like the Sagehens we are. Sagehen baseball is dead, I said to myself....just like Elvis. Just like Elvis.

Like all good ideas, it began with a commercial during the Maury Povich show. One minute Maury was sending troubled teens to boot camp, the next minute I was staring at a ten-second spot for the Professional Bull Riders Bud Light Cup. A slack-jawed city boy stared at the screen, enraptured by the harmonious mix of sporting event and livestock.
Mens Basketball Fails to Reach Division III Tourney

It was the best of play, the worst of play. Unfortunately, the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen had an almost total monopoly on the best plays. Certainly, the Pomona-Pitzer mens basketball team has graced this college with great basketball during our time here. Four consecutive SCIAC championships attest to their skill and hard work. However, this weekends 50-60 loss to Cal Lutheran marked a low point in Sagehen basketball. That this debacle occurred only three days after a disappointing loss to CMS adds insult to injury.
No Way Lakers Will Win Championship

I do not like Mark Cuban.
Now, I do not hate the Mavericks owner by a long-shot. But if I were to ever run out of Christmas Cards, he would be getting the recycled ones I received the year prior. However, as much as I hate to say it, when he is right, he is right.
I am not one to blow sunshine up your ass so I will give it to you straight: The Lakers suck. The season is over. Pick a new team to root for.
Swimming Yields Individual Records

There are certain moments in sports history that are remembered for their display of human perseverance, man pushing himself to the limit and enduring until achieving brilliant victory or suffering painful defeat. The Jamaican bobsled team in 1992. Sylvester Stallone in all five Rocky films. The images of these e gs among men, enduring past their physical limits, reaching for the unattainable, sometimes achieving, but more frequently gloriously failing, stick in the minds of sports fans for all of their valor and virtues. The occurrence at Cerritos Swim Center this past weekend will certainly never be remembered as one of these events.
