Abandon Existentialism, Follow Your Passions

I implore you, reader, to not take any of this too lightly, as is wont to happen in this late postmodern age, lest you forsake your humanity in genuflection to the almighty god Deconstructo. So open your eyes my dears, awaken from your tranquilized slumber in the Void, and follow me to the new (Promised?) Land. Oh, and try not to mistake my entreaties as coming from the voice of Jah (or from some form of schizophrenia): I merely channel the screams and dreams of my fellow beings. And I am but a man, too, with my own faults and weaknesses.
The theme of this article is: Fuck Money and Postmodern Depression; Vive Self-Conscious Manipulation of Oneself and Ones Environment. A better world is possible! Not necessarily a New Economy just yet. At this stage I entreat you all to raise arms in ideological warfare! Use your talents and privileges wisely! Love and care for each other, because if no one did, then youd be dead by now!!! I want you to reach out to others and resist the ideology of our capitalist forebears, who founded social systems on the basis of personal gain. The inheritors of their fortune (won at the expense of entire classes) are building up their defenses as I am writing this, and their strongest weapon is their cultural institutions, especially education and the media machine. I want you to help wrest control of society back from these robber barons and put the control where it rightfully belongs, in each individuals brain. We can do this, but only if we have open discourse, and that can only be attained outside the box, the present economic system. So be inventive! Personally, I plan on making a movie and showing it on campus, and distributing it freely over the Internet, hopefully with the help of volunteers and our parents money. In the words of our late messiah Bob Marley, "Some people think that great Jah will come from the sky, take away everything and make everybody feel high. But if you know what life is worth, you will look for yours on Earth. So now we see the light. We got to stand up for our right. Jah!"
Are we to simply abandon those beautiful human ideals which have evolved over the centuries, are we to make no more use out of our level of understanding than to merely declare that all is meaningless and that there no raison dêtre? Are we just going to consume and labor ourselves into universal oblivion, or are we going to self-consciously open the lines of communication with each other and attempt to construct a world that is in tune with the Earths life support mechanisms, our own biology, and our basic social needs? Are we going to simply let money arbitrarily rule and ride roughshod over our lives? Will we resist oppression in all forms, in the hegemony of captains of industry, of white male supremacists, of the politicians of the "liberal" globalized world?
If you feel that life is worthwhile in some way, then you might as well seek happiness in life (and dont forget that as social beings our happiness is contingent on human networks of support, which are also contingent on our own support of others happiness), because, at the base of it, whether you like to think about neurotransmitters or not, happiness feels good. If youre not happy right now, I dont blame you. Anxiety and depression have evolved to become an essential part of human motivation to ameliorate its existential circumstances. What I want to say to you all, above all, is that your identity, though fixed in some respects, is highly malleable, and that with self-conscious effort you can change yourself in line with your ideals and find your dreams to be actualized.
So my fellow schoolmates, I entreat you to follow through with your passions. Listen to the voices inside your head. Face your demons. But never forget that there is a world outside of you, directly responsible for you, and for which you are directly responsible. And begin thinking of a new, a possible world, in which you, your children, that retarded kid down the block, those Uwa in Colombia, etc., and above all, this fragile planet, can live in peace and harmony for as long as possible. The history of homo sapiens sapiens has only really just begun, and in it there is a place for you all.
