Dining Hall Staff Works Hard
In griping about dining hall food, we often forget that the dining hall staff, on the whole, truly cares about serving the students and making it the most enjoyable experience possible.

Community Can Help Us Cope
The recent events concerning Professor Sontag and Jared Essig has given us all, to say the very least, considerable pause. Simultaneously shocking and incredibly surreal, it has clearly elicited a variety of responses from students and faculty alike, among them confusion, anger, sympathy, and curiosity.

Pomona Should Not Villify Essig
In the wake of the terrifying and unnerving events of this last Monday night involving Professor Fred Sontag and Jared Essig, we must be extremely careful as we, the student body and faculty, commit the episode to memory. Those who know all the facts of the matter are few, including the various newspapers writing stories on the issue, and it would be terribly wrong to vilify Jared as conscious and malicious in his actions toward Professor Sontag.

Kyle: A Jackass, But also a Hero
On Saturday I took my three nephews, a seven year old and five year old twins, to Occidental to see the mighty Sagehens and to teach them that you don't need a Coliseum and a white horse to see great college football.

Nader a Candidate, Not a God
When did it become conventional wisdom that if you want to vote for the guy who really reflects your beliefs and opinions, you'll vote for Nader? Who started the rumor that the only reason to vote Gore is in order not to vote for Bush? Is anyone paying attention to what this Ralph fellow is really suggesting?

Writer Clarifies Steinem Article
Some vital clarifications need to be made concerning my article on Gloria Steinem in last week's issue. The process of publication can be a misleading one for all involved, and I should have read the edited version before it was printed.

Misery Lies Behind Walmart Goods
A college student dotes on a store that is cheap and has a large selection of goods. I went to Walmart in the past to buy the essentials: razors, Brita filters, snacks, shampoo, conditioner, lotion. Oh, and isn't it great that the superstore is located so conveniently close to the colleges?

Departments Need Career Liasons
The October 12th editorial entitled, "CDO Should Serve All Interests," was spirited, but misguided. Pomona College has never promised to be an institution dedicated to career development. It is a liberal arts college where a person learns how to be well versed in many subjects, competent in his or her ability to discuss a variety of topics.

CCLA Bitchy Letter
On behalf of CCLA, I would like to respond to Ms. Kate Hooper's Opinions piece, "Harwood Halloween is Overhyped," printed in the October 27 edition of TSL. In short, I feel she makes a number of blatantly uneducated and even downright inane comments that must reflect either the fact that she is just a freshman or simply a deep cynicism on her part about the Pomona College social life

Frary Necessary to Campus Life
I'll be the first one to admit that a lot of hubbub has been made over non-issues here at Pomona College. But I think that we have a real issue in the closing of Frary next year. I'm shocked at how strongly I feel about it. I think we should all (particularly Pomona students, Scripps students, and CMC students) do something to flat-out stop the closure of Frary during next school year.
