Nader Spreads Message to Students at Big Bridges

Less than 24 hours after renowned feminist Gloria Steinem delivered her "top ten reasons not to vote for Nader" to an overflowing Balch auditorium at Scripps, Green Party Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader arrived two hours late at Big Bridges Auditorium on Pomona's campus to argue his case. Preceeding Nader, Senate hopeful Medea Benjamin spoke and answered questions about the Green Party, her campaign, and her hopes for the future of American democracy.

Proposition 36 Debated by Judge, State Senator During Annual PPA Symposium

Tuesday night's Public Policy Analysis Senior Symposium, "Proposition 36: Reforming California's Drug Policy," pitted Yes on 36 campaign manager Dave Fratello '90 and California State Senate Majority Leader Senator Richard G. Polanco against Proposition 36 opponents Judge Patrick A. Morris and drug court graduate Marcelle Wess.

Claremont Rebuked

The California First Amendment Coalition awarded the Claremont its "Black Hole" award signifying "blatant disregard" for open government and First Amendment laws. The award is handed out annually to individuals or public agencies "whose actions stifle public participation in government and violate public records and public access laws."

Students Irked By Digester

Recently, the Office of Information Technologies replaced the SusanD-mail digester. The digester provided a means for students to send e-mail to the entire Pomona community; messages sent to Susan Deitz at the Office of Student Affairs were reviewed and sent to students on a twice-daily basis.

The men's Water Polo team finally began its season last Wednesday against Occidental. The Sagehens had already played 13 games, and held an overall record of 3-10. Despite their losing preseason, the men foster ambitious designs for the SCIAC conference.

Liberals Should Be More Open-Minded
Coming to a liberal arts institution, I was not expecting the students to be staunch conservatives. However, I also wasn't expecting not to find one conservative among my circle of acquaintances. It's incredible how the majority of the students at Pomona seem to be of the same mind.
