Senate Briefs

Compiled by Liz Rodriguez

CCLA

Campus Events Commissioner Tamara Chellam ’03 reported that the Spring Formal went well, although it was a substantial money loss.

Chellam also talked about the Common concert. There was a low turnout because of too many competing events going on that weekend. CCLA took a look at its performance this past year, and reported that it programmed 119 nights out of the year. CCLA is choosing deputies soon.

POW

Community Affairs Commissioner Janelle Lin ’00 reported that POW! was a success due to the 293 people that volunteered. She thought the barbecue and the concert went well, but she advises earlier planning for the concert next year.

Earth Day Environmental Affairs Commissioner Aaron Ginoza ’02 reported that the Sagehen shuttle will be taking students to Earth Day in LA.

Course Review

Academic Affairs Commissioner Sarah Jackel ’01 reported that the Course Review was done and copies would be available at ASPC. Jackel recommend that in the future all course reviews be done online only in order to save paper and printing costs.

Budget

Vice-President Putnam Shin ’00 motioned that $500 be moved from the alcohol fund to the unallocated fund. North Campus Representative Robi Ganguly ’00 seconded the motion. Yes: 8 No: 0 Abstaining: 2. The motion passed.

David Silverman

David Silverman, a Simpsons producer, will be speaking at the Rose Hills Theater on Friday, April 21. Senate members will have the opportunity to have dinner with him beforehand.

Position Evaluations

There was a Senate discussion about whether senators felt they were on too many committees. Chellam feels that Residence Hall and Foods Commissioner should still be in CCLA, but the other Senator on CCLA shouldn’t have to specifically be Sports Commissioner.

TSL Editor-in-Chief

The application process for TSL Editor-in-Chief will begin soon, with TSL being responsible for advertising. All applications will go to Communications Commissioner Emeka Okereke ‘00, and the Print Media Committee will interview them.

Bernard Field Station

Charles Cange ’03 came in to talk about Bernard Field Station. Cange would like for Senate to be an appellant in an appeal that will be filed against the go-ahead that Claremont has given the architects for the Keck Graduate Institute.
