Senate Briefs

Compiled by Liz Rodriguez

•Club Visits

Senators are continuing visiting various clubs across campus to offer Senate’s support and listen to concerns.

•CCLA Events

Commissioner of Campus Events Tamara Chellam ’00 announced this weekend’s events. The movie Three Kings will be playing at the Rose Hills Theater. There will also be parties thrown by Queer Resource Center as well as a Senior Social.

•Paintball Trip

Discussion revolved around the fact that many groups petition both Senate and CCLA for funding. The issue has been a long standing one, as CCLA is a subsidiary of Senate. The problem arises because there is no clear demarcation between the types of requests which go to Senate and the types which go to CCLA, so organizations wind up requesting funds from both organizations from a single coffer. After discussion, a motion was passed by the Senate to fund the paintball trip. The CCLA request will be dealt with by CCLA.

•Frary

Commissioner of Residence Halls and Food Sam Brenner ’02 discussed Frary’s dining hours. She is currently trying to negotiate with Aramark Director Aaron Nielsen (Director of Aramark) to find a viable solution.

•Frary Bells

Due to complaints from many residents of North Campus, Dean of Students Ann Quinley is looking into how to adjust the volume and frequency of the ringing, if not stop it completely.

•Outkast Concert

Mike Sung ’00 came to Senate with a new budget proposal for the Outkast concert. The concert with George Clinton wasn’t feasible, but the Outkast concert seems much more likely to happen, this time with CMC financing part of it. A motion was passed to give Sung $18,000 for underwriting the show.

•New Phys Ed Requirement

Academic Affairs Commissioner Sarah Jackel ’00 reported that the Physical Education Department is continuing its proposal for a change in the Physical Education Requirement. The Faculty Committee will vote on the proposal on Friday.
