Men’s Basketball Ends Short Losing Streak

Coming off a disappointing loss to the CMS Stags the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens basketball team traveled to La Verne in hopes of regaining some momentum and staying in position to contend with the Stags for the SCIAC championship. La Verne had other ideas.

Men’s Swimming Takes Dive Despite Strong Performances

This past Saturday, the Men’s Swimming and Diving Team squared off against the Stags of CMS. The Hens walked across Sixth Street to the briny Axelrose Pool with their heads held high. Facing a considerably larger team, the Hen’s were defeated 150-88, but did not go down without putting up a fight. [con't]


Rip-Roarin’ Rugby Ramblings

The five and a half hour drive which took the Claremont Colleges Women’s Rugby Team from a sunny Californian midday to a dark Arizona evening didn’t seem too bad, especially considering all the pee stops on the way. Being the brilliant rugby girls that they are, they they had begun hydrating themselves the previous Wednesday to avoid cramps and heat exhaustion during the game on Sunday. SCIAC Crown Doubtful After Up and Down Week

The collapse began innocuously enough: a Sagehen turnover and a resulting basket for the ladies of Cal Lutheran. But that play began a series of mistakes that would open the floodgates and ultimately finish off the Lady Sagehens. Despite playing an incredible game up to that point against undefeated Cal Lutheran, those crucial plays and final few minutes put a probable end to the Sagehen’s hopes of a repeat SCIAC title. Two Moral Victories Leave Sagehens Set for the Big Dance

The women swimmers returned to sunny Claremont on January 3rd to begin two weeks of intense practices fondly referred to as "winter training." Though the team was hard at work, Aramark was not, so the Aquahens enjoyed eating in the village and at various restaurants in the Inland Empire. During this time, the swimmers and divers lived together in Clark I. There were a few changes to the roster, as Ashley Eastman ’01 and Kate Bollinger ’01 both returned from a semester abroad, and Claire Townshend ’01 and Alli Schwarztman ’01 departed for Nepal and Scotland, respectively.
