Drinking Contest Costs Sponsors Their JobsBy Aaron Kim News Associate Two sponsors lost their positions earlier this semester following an alcohol-related incident at the end of the fall semester that resulted in the emergency hospitalization of one of their sponsees. The last time the administration removed sponsors was during the 1997-1998 academic year. City Grants Café Permit for Alcohol ServiceBy Nancy Hanna Production Associate The Sagehen Café will soon add beer and wine to its menu, after ARAMARK argued successfully for a conditional use permit. The commission voted in support of granting permit #99-C16, much to the consternation of Chairperson Andersen, who felt Pomona was taking "a step down the wrong path" by serving alcohol on campus. After a report by Claremont City staff recommending the denial of the request, Aramark was given ten minutes to present its case. They also inserted a provision that no hard liquor would be served and requested that the decision be reviewed again in six months. [con't]

Oken-Berg's resignation was a result of his decision to run for mayor of his hometown of Portland, Oregon.
